Tom Selleck is a popular American actor who is best known for portraying the role of Thomas Magnum, the private investigator of hit television series, Magnum, P.I. His unique appearance has earned him roles as police officers in other series as well. Besides his performance in Magnum, P.I., he is also known for his remarkable performance in the movie, Three Men and a Baby. Tom Selleck, who was born on 29th January, 1945, has been working in this field since more than past four decades.

Tom Selleck was born as one of the four children of late Robert Dean Selleck and his wife, Martha S. His father was a real estate investor who died in 2001. He has two brothers and a sister, namely Robert, Martha and Daniel. At the time of his birth, his family was residing in Michigan, who later commuted to Sherman Oaks, California. He is currently living in California with his wife Jillie Mack. He married Jillie on 7th August, 1987. Jillie gave birth to their daughter on 16th December, 1988 who was named as Hannah Margaret Selleck. Prior to Jillie, Tom was married to Jacqueline Ray. The two were married in 1971 and stayed together for more than a decade before they got divorced in 1982. During his marriage with Jacqueline, he adopted a boy named Kevin Shepard who was born in 1966.

Tom Selleck was a student at Grant High School. After graduating from his high school, he joined the University of California to major in Business Administration. He was a basketball scholar of the university and was also a member of the university’s varsity team, USC Trojans basketball team. Tom, who was also involved in part-time modeling, was suggested to try his hands in acting industry by the drama tutor of the university. Soon he began learning acting from Milton Katselas at his institution called Beverly Hills Playhouse. He gave wings to his acting career in 1969. His debut performance as a professional actor was made for an episode called Death Batt of a 1969’s television series, Lancer. A year later, he made his first appearance on the big screen by portraying a role as Stud in Myra Breckinridge. Since then, Tom continued making cameo roles for television series and movies but he achieved critical success in 1980 after appearing in front of audiences as Thomas Magnum of television series, Magnum, P.I. The show was one of the highly rated series which ran from 1980 to 1988. Tom did not only achieve enormous public attention but also won several awards including a Golden Globe Award. In addition, his movies like Three Men and a Baby, Lassiter and Quigley Down Under, and television series like Friends, The Closer, Jesse Stone series, Las Vegas and Blue Blood helped him a lot in rising to fame. It has already been more than 4 decades that Tom had spent in the film industry. For his exceptional contribution to the film industry, he was honored with a doctorate degree from Pepperdine University in 2000. A Star of his name has been enlisted on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as an honor to his outstanding career. The famed actor is paid salary of 130,000 dollars per episode of Blue Blood. He is one of the richest actors with net worth of 22 million dollars.

Besides a successful actor, Tom was also a collegiate athlete. He was not only a basketball scholar but is also a volleyball prodigy. He plays as a hitter for the volleyball team, Outrigger Canoe Club of Honolulu. He is also found to have keen interest in ice hockey and hence he frequently attends games of Los Angeles Kings. At a time, he was a minority owner of professional baseball team, Detroit Tigers. He is also fond of travelling is frequently found to be switching between his three residences in California at Fallbrook, Freedom and Thousand Oaks. He also visits his home in Jonesboro, Maine during summer. He is an open-hearted person who supports various causes. He actively supports such organizations whose motive is to help people with cancer, hunger, poverty, etc.
