Mike Duffy

Born on May 27, 1946 Michael Dennis Duffy, popularly known as Mike Duffy is a Canadian Senator and a former television journalist. Prior to embarking on his career as an independent senator for his home province, Charlotte, Prince Edward, Duffy was working as an editor for CTV News Channel. He held keen interest with political affairs while growing up and had his mind set on becoming a political leader someday. But Duffy had to start somewhere to realize his ambitions in longer run. His hopes and aspirations did come true but it took him years of wait. His career had in fact begun long while ago during 1960’s where he first got started as a teen disc jockey at CFCY-TV. During his adult years, he’s had several work changes which had aided him basically add to his knowledge and experience.

 

He moved to Ottawa in 1971 and began covering news from Parliament Hill. Duffy then joined CBC radio in 1974 from where he gradually got promoted as the lead CBC television reporter assigned with the responsibility of covering the most important federal stories. He remained with the network for over a decade before joining Baton Broadcasting, in 1988 as the first host of its Sunday morning news program Sunday Edition. With the end of that series, he decided to join CTV in 1999. He anchored two prime shows for the channel; “Countdown with Mike Duffy” and “Mike Duffy Live”. He is the member of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and also the recipient of an ACTRA award for live reporting. Besides, he has won other numerous awards and honors. He has experienced great career over the years with everything going on for his favor. However, Duffy was not someone ready to settle for less than what he had hoped for.

 

In 2008, after years of patiently waiting, he was elected Prince Edward Island representative as the Senate of Canada sitting as the conservative. As a senator, he handles and looks after the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Forestry and the standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament. However, Duffy after becoming a politician has frequently been caught in controversies. In 2012, he along with other four senators were accused of claiming primary residency outside of Ottawa, which the Senate of Internal economy announced that they would all be subject to the forensic audit to determine appropriateness of their expenses claims.

 

He is married with long term girlfriend Heather Duffy. They have been married for several years and are still tight together. However, any information about their children is not available anywhere. Duffy and his wife are sharing a good life minus relationship troubles and are less likely to divorce in future either. He’s experiencing a great domestic and professional life; he’s not complaining.
