In 2020, even as a true freshman, Boutte was chosen to be LSU's top receiver.  This event unfolded as LSU's top receiver Ja'Marr Chase opted to rescind from the season. Chase was preparing for the 2021 NFL draft at that time. 

As another wider receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. also rescinded his team position, Boutte became the top receiver in the team.

What are his records?

He made a new SEC and LSU record for receiving yards with 14 receptions for 308 yards in a single game. This happened on the 19th of december 2020 while LSU tigers were playing against Ole Miss.
