At the age of 28, film actor Dane DeHaan has surpassed the expectations of the fans and critics who have been following his career since he first appeared in the big screen in the drama film Amigo by John Sayles. Since then the actor has been appearing in more than a few critically acclaimed acting roles in namely in movies such as Chronicle in 2012, Kill Your Darlings in 2013 and The Amazing Spider Man 2 in 2014. Born on February 6, 1986, Dane, in a period of the last four years, has worked alongside film veterans like John Sayles, John Hillcoat, Steven Spielberg, and Derek Cianfrance among others.
The Allentown, Pennsylvania native was born as the younger to two child to his parents. A self proclaimed drama geek, Dane indulged in theatre during high school while attending the Emmaus High School. He hung out with the theatre crowd at Emmaus High from his freshman year to junior year and for his graduating year of high school, he attended a special one year program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He continued his theatre studies at the university for the next four years, graduating in 2008. The award winning actor is married to Nice Guy Johnny actress Anna Wood and currently resides with her in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The pair tied the knot in 2012 after dating for six years.
Dane began acting professionally as an understudy to actor Haley Joel Osment in the Broadway production of the David Mamet play American Buffalo. He landed a role in television in 2008 in the Law & Order Special Victims Unit. He debuted as a film actor in the Philippine-American war film Amigo. He appeared in the recurring role as Jesse D’Amato in the third installment of HBO drama series In Treatment in 2010. That year he appeared at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre for an off Broadway production of the play The Aliens which co-starred Erin Gann and Michael Chernus. He was awarded the Obie Award for Performance that year. In 2012, he appeared in the science fiction movie Chronicle and crime drama Lawless starring Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy and Mia Wasikowska. That year he also had roles in Jack & Diane and Lincoln. In 2013, he appeared in a critically acclaimed role in the biographical drama film Kill Your Darlings with Daniel Radcliffe and Michael C. Hall. The role was worthy of a Breakthrough Performer Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2013 and was nominated for Breakthrough Award at the Gotham Awards in 2013 as well as an EE Rising Star Award at the BAFTA Awards a year later. Following his recurring role in HBO’s True Blood in 2011, he starred in The Place Beyond the Pines, Metallica Through the Never and Kill Your Darlings in 2013. He is also popularly recognized as Harry Osborn of the fantasy superhero movie The Amazing Spider- Man 2 in which he appeared in 2014. Dane is set to appeal to the audience in the portrayal of the late actor James Dean in the upcoming Anton Corbijn drama that will be called Life. The film also stars Twilight actor Robert Pattinson as James Dean’s close friend Dennis Stock. He will also be appearing in period romantic drama Tulip Fever in 2015 and will be reprising his role as the friend/nemesis of Spiderman in the 2016 movie The Sinister Six.
Dane was also featured in the music video for the single I Bet My Life by the rock band Imagine Dragons in 2014.
