A blond Aussie, Cate Blanchett has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry by appearing in some of the biggest movies of decade, including Elizabeth and Bandits”, “The Lord of the Rings trilogy and most recently “Blue Jasmine”.  She established herself among the Hollywood’s leading lady by delivering the Academy Award-winning performance in “The Aviator”. The Oscar winning actress who began life as Catherine Elise Blanchett on 14th of May 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia is now internationally branded as Cate Blanchett. Product of French, Scottish and English heritage and middle of 3 children, Cate is a daughter of an Australian schoolteacher, June and an American naval officer, Robert Blanchett. Her older brother, Bob is a computer engineer and sister, Genevieve is a theater designer. A tragedy struck her life at age ten when she lost her father to heart attack. Raised by single mother, Cate spent a normal childhood. For her primary education, she went to Ivanhoe East Primary School and attended the Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School for secondary education. While studying at the Methodist Ladies’ College, she discovered her ardor for performing arts. She studied fine arts and economics at the University of Melbourne. Dropping the university, she joined the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. She graduated through NIDA in 1992.

Cate has four children with her screenwriter and playwright husband, Andrew Upton.
