More people are starting to take a note of Astrid Berges-Frisbey, the eccentric French beauty gradually making a mark in Hollywood. Those unfamiliar to French television and film haven’t really had the opportunity to set their eyes on Berges-Frisbey until her English language debut in Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011. The French-Spanish actress, who was born on May 26, 1986, made her acting debut with a French television series, Sur le fil, in 2007. Since then, she has appeared in a few critically acclaimed performances in English, Spanish and French languages and has also dived into the world of modeling.

One significant feature that has garnered Berges-Frisbey continued attention is the color of her beautiful eyes-a blend of green, blue, grey and a little orange, which is a result of sectoralheterochromia. The actress is from Barcelona, Spain where she was born to Spanish and French-American parents. She and her two younger sisters moved to France when she was five and were raised in La Rochelle. She divided her time between her divorced parents, spending summers with her father in the Dominican Republic. When she was seventeen, she settled down in Paris alone to study Osteopathy. Her father passed away during this time. She graduated school and began training as an actress. Because of her mixed heritage, she can fluently speak French, Spanish and Catalan. She familiarized herself with English in 2011 for her first English speaking role in Pirates of the Caribbean. The role was well accepted by the audience and her on screen chemistry with actor Sam Clafin have fueled rumors but turns out that Berges-Frisbey is in a relationship. She is presently dating French actor Pierre Perrier.

Berges-Frisbey made her first television appearance in 2007 with a French language television series. her role in 2008’s Un Barrage contre le Pacifique is considered to be her breakout role in the French entertainment industry. In the movie is an adaptation of Marguerite Duras’s The Sea Wall and was directed by RithyPanh. The film also starred Isabelle Huppert, Gaspard Ulliel, StephaneRideu and Lucy Harrison. Berges-Frisbey fronted the apparel brand French Connection’s campaign in 2010 which marked her debut in modeling. She went on to model for Chanel. In 2011, she impressed Jerry Bruckheimer and Rob Marshall who cast her in their highly awaited movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. She learnt English specifically to star in the movie. Her English and acting were both critically acclaimed and a hit with the American audience. She continued to work in Spanish and French productions after this, starring next in the French romantic drama, The Well Digger’s Daughter in 2011. She was awarded the 2009 Prix Suzanne Bianchetti and the TropheeChopard Award for Female Revelation of the Year at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. In 2012, she starred in the Spanish film, El sexo de los angeles. Two years later, she landed a starring role opposite actor Michael Pitt in Mike Cahill’s science fiction drama, I Origins. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival that year and was awarded the Best Feature Length Film Award at the Sitges Film Festival. To add to her list of known languages, she learnt Italian for her role in the upcoming film, Claudio Cupellini’s Alaska. The film will be releasing in late 2015 and Berges-Frisbey has been paired opposite actor Emilio Germano. She will also be appearing as the female lead in the epic adventure movie Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur in 2016. The movie will be her third English-language role.
