The most recognized and respected face in the world of media is Amy Goodman. She endures the habit of sticking to the fact and her point of view can make anyone for once. She has given most of the years of her life in bringing news and facts across the globe. She is also known as syndicated columnist whose column only speaks facts and truth. She is also an investigative correspondent, author and broadcast journalist. Amy is among the most powerful media person. She is widely recognized as the Democracy Now’s host. The program was founded in 1996 as daily newspaper and it broadcast independent global news daily through radio internet and television.

 

The talented and hardworking journalist was born on 13th April of 1957 in Washington DC. She is daughter of George who was an ophthalmologist and Dorothy Goodman who was a social activist. She was brought up in the Bay Shore in NY in an Orthodox Jewish family. The adolescence Amy attended Bay Shore High School and graduated in 1975. She also holds the anthropology degree from the Radcliffe College. Prior becoming the news director of WBAI in Pacifica Radio, she was nearly killed when she witnessed the mob murder of Timorese demonstrator while she was there for the coverage of independence movement of East Timor. Later, it was named as the Santa Cruz Massacre and the story was widely acclaimed and received numerous awards including an Alfred I. DuPont and Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Prize. She and her college friend Allan Naim aren’t allowed to enter in East Timor.

 

The brave and extraordinary journalist is regarded as the main brain of the Democracy Now. It’s only her idea and belief that Democracy Now is regarded as the most prominent news program that has come in light in some time. However, she credits it success to mainstream media institution. Being the news director of WBAI in New York for more than ten years, she has also organized and interviewed Bill Clinton in his get 28 minutes get out the vote message on 2000 Election Day challenging him with the question about Iraq sanctions, NFTA, the Israeli Palestinian Conflict, Leonard Peltier and racial profiling. Who was hold in the custody for reporting on anti war protest which was held outside of RNC. She was charged as interfering police person and creating obstruction in legal process.

 

Being one of the most influential and powerful media personality, her works and efforts are honored with several awards. She has received Islamic Community Award for her work in journalism in 2nd October 2004 by the Council on American – Islamic Relation. She was also awarded with Puffin/Nation Prize in 2006 for Creative Citizenship. It was the 1st of October of 2008 when she was received 2008 Right Livelihood Award. The ceremony took place on 8th December 2008 in the Swedish Parliament. She is also the author of the bestselling books including 2004’s The Exception to Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers and the Media That Love Them, 2006 Static and the most recent one The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and hope.
