Siberian Forest cat
The Siberian Forest cat is also known as the Moscow Semi-Longhair. It has its origins in Russia and is the national cat of the country. It is thought to be ancestral to all the long-haired cats today.
It began as a landrace but is now selectively bred. The Neva Masquerade is a colorpoint variant of the breed. The Siberian cat has an arch on its back.
This is attributed to the fact that they have longer hind limbs. These limbs are strong and they help with the cat’s agile jumping. The cat also has a large full tail and large rounded paws.
This breed of cats also has medium or large ears which are complemented by their large round eyes which make them have a permanent cute and sweet expression on their faces.
Their foreheads are broad and chests barreled. The cats often grow to a medium or medium to large overall build.
The Balinese cat is also known as the purebred long-haired Siamese cat because it came about as a natural mutation of the Siamese breed. The Balinese cat is social, inquisitive and playful.
It is said to be one of the most intelligent long-haired breeds of cats. There are two types of Balinese cats, the traditional ones, and the modern ones.
Each of these cats has a slender frame, long legs, and an equally long tail. The traditional Balinese’s ears are pointed and their eyes are in an almond shape.

Norwegian Forest cat
The Norwegian Forest cat has its origins in northern Europe, which explains its physique and long hair. These characteristics are said to have been a form of adaptation to the cat’s environment.
The Norwegian Forest cat is said to have been a landrace breed that was brought to the region by Vikings around 1000AD. This cat is popular in France, Norway, Iceland, and Sweden.
It almost became extinct during World War II but was later saved by intentional breeding through a cat club.
It was then registered in the 1970s when a local cat enthusiast championed for it to get officially registered as a breed. The Norwegian Forest cat bears similarities with the Maine Coon.
It has long legs and strong claws which make it extremely good at climbing. The cat also has a bushy tail and a sturdy body.
The breed generally has a 14 to 16-year lifespan despite reports of kidney and heart diseases.
The Persian cat
The Persian cat has its origins in the Middle East. It is also referred to as the Persian Longhair in parts of the world, as the Iranian cat in the Middle East and as Shirazi cat in Iran.
This breed is characterized by its short muzzle and round face. This breed of cat is characterized by a wide head and short muzzle.
It also has large eyes and ears that are far apart in addition to the thick coat and short legs. The cat was originally introduced with a short muzzle but the character has become exaggerated over time.
The Persian cat is said to have a lifespan of 12 to 17 years. However, the breed is said to be prone to certain health problems.

The original breeding stock had individuals who would go limp upon being picked up. This, therefore, led to the name ‘ragdoll.’ The breed is one of the largest domesticated cats.
It is calm and docile. The ragdoll measures between 15 and 20 pounds in its full-grown state. It has a large frame and proportionate legs.
Red, seal, chocolate, cream, blue and lilac are the variants when it comes to ragdoll colors. Like any other long-haired breed, it is important to carefully groom the cat’s coat or it will get matted.
Turkish Angora cat
The Turkish Angora cat, like the name suggests, has its origins in Turkey. It is also known simply as the Ankara or Angora cat.
The breed is known for its distinctively white and shimmery coats although it also comes in other colors such as black with a brown undercoat and other smoky varieties.
Turkish Angora cats often perch on high ground in the home such as on bookshelves and doors so they can observe activity in the home.
They love human interaction although they pick one member of the family as a constant companion. They are also intelligent and very playful.
This breed is predisposed to some genetic diseases such as hereditary ataxia which causes shaking in the kittens.
They rarely make it to adulthood with this condition. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is also a hereditary disease in the breed although it is rare. It can be discovered between the ages of 2 to 6 years.
The Birman is distinguished by its medium to long hair which has a silky texture. This domestic, deep blue-eyed cat is also known as the sacred cat or Burma. It has its origins in France.
The breed does not have an undercoat which makes it less prone to matting. The Birman has a pointed coat and distinct white socks or gloves on the paws.
The white part is symmetrical on every paw and is a unique feature in the breed. Aside from this, the Birman cat has a rectangular body with a broad face. It has ears that are as tall as they are wide.
The Birman does not have many health problems. The most predominant disease is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which progresses as the cat ages.

American Bobtail cat
The American Bobtail cat is one of the shaggiest and long-haired cats in the world. It is not a common breed of domestic cats but it is fast gaining popularity.
The breed was developed in the late 1960s and it got its name from the distinct stubbed nature of its tail. The American Bobtail has a rectangular body with a stocky appearance and chest as wide as the hips.
It has a broad, flat and wedged head whose size is proportional to its body. The breed also has longer hind limbs with large round feet that have toe tufts.
This breed of cats is extremely social and playful. They have a moderate amount of energy and will ask for attention by hopping onto laps or just meowing.
This is thought to be as a result of their social nature. Additionally, the cats are considered intelligent. They are able to get out of rooms with closed doors and even cages.
This recognized LaPerm cat breed gets its name from the fact that it has curly fur which is tightly curled especially at the base of the ears, the throat, and the belly.
The cat’s coat is similar to a shaggy perm. This cat breed originated in the United States as a rex breed. The LaPerm cat is medium in size and has a long neck as well as legs.
Its broad head has contours and a muzzle. In addition to this, the cat has a broad nose and medium to large almond-shaped eyes.
There are different popular colorpoints such as chocolate and lilac. The LaPerm cat is said to be hypoallergenic. Its strong curls keep the hairs in place which helps in keeping allergens under control.
This breed also has a lifespan of about 10 to 15 years. It does not seem to have health problems like some of the other popular long-haired cats.
