Varun Dhawan | Biography
One of the hottest stars in Bollywood right now, Varun Dhawan has come a long way in the Indian film industry and his current status in the cinema is a testimony to his success in the near future. Born on April 24, 1987, Dhawan has been acting professionally since 2012 and within a few years he has been able to climb the ranks to the highest profiles in Bollywood. It was evident from his debut film appearance in the Student of the Year, that this twenty something actor is on his way to become one of the biggest stars in India.
Dhawan is the younger son of famed Indian film director David Dhawan who is prominent for his comedy movies. He graduated from the Nottingham Trent University where he pursued Business Management. After graduation, he moved back to India and began his journey in the film industry. Upon the release of his debut film, he was propelled to nationwide recognition and it wasn’t long before he was being recognized as an A-list Indian celebrity. His onscreen romance with fellow newcomer Alia Bhatt was an instant hit and had several fans pining for the couple. Consequently, several rumors were fueled about the two being in a relationship. But nothing has been confirmed from either. The boyishly handsome actor has also been romantically linked with actress Lisa Haydon in 2014. Haydon later cleared it up on her official Twitter revealing that she was single.
Not many fans know this but prior to debuting as an actor, Dhawan assisted director Karan Johar for his movie My Name is Khan which starred Shah Rukh Khan in 2010. His debut came later in 2012 with Student of the Year in which he starred as a college student opposite Alia Bhatt. The movie was the debut for the actress and actor Sidharth Malhotra as well. The role was critically acclaimed, earning him several award nominations and the Stardust Award for Breakthrough Performance and instantly made him a sought after actor in Bollywood. After a hiatus, he returned to the big screen with his second film, Main Tera Hero in 2014. The comedy, directed by David Dhawan, hauled in ?770 million domestically. He was reunited with actress Alia Bhatt in another romantic comedy movie, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, and yet another box office hit for Dhawan. In 2015, he took a more serious role in the thriller film Badlapur, which he co-starred with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Yami Gautam and Huma Qureshi. Badlapur was commercially successful and a career milestone for the actor who had previously appeared only in comic roles. With three very successful films already under his belt, the talented actor is headed for more diverse roles in 2015. He will be starring with actress Shraddha Kapoor in ABCD 2, a sequel to ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, where he will be portraying Suresh Mukund, a real life Mumbai based dancer. Famed Indian choreographer Prabhu Deva will be reprising his role for the sequel. Another awaited movie to star Dhawan is the comedy drama Dilwale in which India’s epic onscreen couple, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be appearing in starring roles after several years. The Rohit Shetty directed film also stars Kriti Sanon. A third role opposite Alia Bhatt in a movie titled Shuddhi is also in the works.
Dhawan has also proved himself as an excellent dancer from his movies. He has performed at more than a few award ceremonies including a fund raiser for flood victims. He was the host of the Stardust Awards and Screen Awards in 2013.
Now 28, Dhawan has busy years ahead of him as he makes his way towards blockbuster movies. The Indian cinema will be seeing a lot more of this handsome actor in the years to come.
