Lee Radziwill | Biography

 Lee Radziwill is one of the most famous and respected socialites in America. She was a moderately successful actress for a short period of her life. She is famously known as the younger sibling of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the wife of John F. Kennedy. She is also recognized as the ex-wife of Polish royalty, Stanislaw Albrecht Radziwill, from whom she became to be known as a Radziwill. She was born as Caroline Lee Bouvier on March 3, 1933.

Radziwill was born and raised in Southampton, New York to an aristocratic family. Her middle name was derived from her grandfather’s name. As a member of a high profile family, she had her share of socialite exposure. She attended boarding school as a young girl. She had a rivalrous but close relationship with Jacqueline Kennedy. She has been wedded thrice. She was married to Michael Canfield in 1953 when she was twenty. They separated a few years later. She became Her Serene Highness Princess Stanislaw Albrecht Radziwill when she married the then prince of Poland in 1959. They had a son and a daughter together. They separated too and she married for the third time in 1988. Her third husband was director Herbert Ross with whom she separated in 2001. It is also known that she had brief relationships with Peter Cook and Aristotle Onassis, the latter married her sister.

Radziwill attended Sarah Lawrence College. As a young and thriving socialite, she traveled extensively. She travelled to Asia with Jacqueline Kennedy in the early 1960s. Since her early twenties, she has been a fashion fanatic. The media frequently applauded her for her impeccable style and attitude. She has served as an inspiration for high end designers like Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Yves Saint Laurent. She had a short lived acting career in the late 1960s. She starred in The Philadelphia Story as Tracy Lord in 1967. Her acting was not that impressive but she did gained exposure from her acting pursuits. Later, she was seen in a television movie Laura which also wasn’t successful. She decided to quit acting after this try. In 1958, she supervised a Vogue campaign in Brussels. With her sister, she created a travelling scrapbook called One Special Summer. The interiors of her extravagant homes in England were provided by Renzo Mongiardino. She worked as a designer herself for a short time during which she served equally rich clients. In 1966, she attended the elite Black and White Ball organized by former friend Truman Capote which included other guests like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Greta Garbo and Frank Sinatra. She joined Truman on the 1972 The Rolling Stones American Tour. She also worked briefly as Giorgio Armani’s PR executive in the later years. Over the years she has continued to make glamorous appearances in high profile parties and social events proving she remains to be one of the most fashionable socialites in America. In 2013, she was among the fifty best dressed over 50 according to Guardian previously being inducted into the International Best Dressed List in 1996. She has also been honored with the Legion d’honneur by the government of France in 2008.

It is evident from her lifestyle that Radziwill has an innate interest in high living. She likes to travel. She has aged gracefully over these years and is still considered a fashion icon and inspiration by many. She is a regular appearance at sophisticated and elegant parties and events where she can be seen in marvelous designer outfits.
