The then-rising star of the Australian Film Wave, Jacki Weaver has twice received a nod at the Academy Awards. Her performance in the Australian crime thriller Animal Kingdom and the American romantic drama Silver Linings Playbook has been nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Born on May 25, 1947, Jacki made a breakthrough in cinema with movies like Caddie, Stork and Petersen and isn’t nearly slowing down any time soon. The Australian actress also has a commendable history in theatre and television and with many more upcoming roles she will surely be receiving an Academy Award in the near future.
The Sydney, New South Wales native has been married more than once. Her current husband Sean Taylor with whom she’s been married for over ten years is the fourth man she has been married to. They have been together since 2003. Her first marriage to David Price lasted for four years until 1970. She married Max Hensser five years later with whom she divorced shortly. In 1983, she tied the knot with radio host Derryn Hinch. The couple stayed together for almost sixteen years and separated in 1996. A year later, they rekindled their love and remarried in 1997 only to divorce two years later in 1998. However she has no children from any of her husbands but with her former boyfriend John Walters. Their son was born in 1969.
Jacki had debuted in the Australian entertainment industry with theatre. Since her debut in 1962’s A Wish is a Dream performed at the Phillip Theatre in Sydney, she has gone on to be cast in several theatre plays in several theatres in Australia. Her plans to attend university were cancelled when she became a cast member on Wandjina! in 1966. She appeared in other Australian series like Homicide, Division 4, Riptide and many more followed in the 1970s and the 1980s. She entered the film industry with Stork in 1971 and worked her way up with movies like Alvin Purple, Petersen, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Removalists and made a breakthrough with the drama Caddie. She won the Australian Film Institute Award for Caddie. While acting in films, she also made rounds at the theatres like Nimrod Upstairs, Drama Theatre, Theatre Royal, Comedy Theatre, Playhouse and Riverside Theatres among others. She took a hiatus from appearing in film and television in the early 1990s but did appear in two plays at the Riverside Theatres in Parramatta and Comedy Club in Carlton. Her more recent film roles include a supporting role in the romantic comedy The Five Year Engagement, Silver Linings Playbook, Stoker, Parkland, Haunt, Reclaim, The Voices, Maya the Bee and Magic in the Moonlight. She appeared in the romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook as the wife to Robert De Niro’s character and the mother to the character played by actor Bradley Cooper. The film a box-office hit with more than $236 million earnings and was awarded eight nominations at the Academy Awards with the Academy Award for Best Actress win for Jennifer Lawrence. Jacki didn’t receive the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for which she was nominated but she did win the AACTA Award for the Best International Supporting Actress in 2012. Her first Academy Award nomination had been for her performance in the thriller hit Animal Kingdom which was released in 2010. She was awarded for the role by the Australian Film Institute, the National Board of Review and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The actress will be appearing in Last Cab to Darwin and Equals in 2015.
