Isha Sesay, an English journalist was born on January 6, 1976. She anchors for CNN International and HLN. Her birth place is in London, United Kingdom. She was born to Muslim parents and has two siblings: an older sister and a younger brother. Her mother was Dr. Kadi Sesay, a former lecturer of Fourah Bay College, became an advisor to the government of Valentine Strasser in 1992 who was seen actively engaged in Sierra Leonean politics. Her father was a legal advisor to Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board who expired in 1988. At the age of 7, she with her family moved to Sierra Leone, the place where she spent most of her childhood. She attended Fourah Bay College School in Sierra Leone. By the age of 16, she had completed her A-levels. She came back to United Kingdom to pursue her studies and so she studied English in Trinity College, Cambridge where she made up her mind to be a television reporter although she had aimed to become an actress before. Currently, Isha is hosting news for CNN News Center and Back Story from CNN’s world headquarters Atlanta. She is also a permanent presenter for Anderson Cooper 360°, apart from CNN International. Lately, she has become a co-anchor on Evening express for HLN too.
Sesay commenced her career in television as an unpaid volunteer in BBC talk show Kilroy where she contributed her service as a researcher. Later, she turned into a paid employee working full-time. In 1998, she went to Glasgow to work for BBC Scotland. Her primary phase of working in television was mainly behind the camera. For the first time, she appeared on screen as a TV presenter on BBC Choice. She appeared presenting several programmes for CNN, BBC and TWI and eventually joined Sky in March 2002 where she began to present sports news. She worked on Good Morning Sports Fan as a presenter for more than three years at Sky Sports News. During her period at the network, she gained some elevating experiences which include meeting Michael Watson, interviewing Ellen MacArthur, travelling with Arsenal football team members for an exhibition match (Reebok Stadium) organized in support of Nwankwo Kano’s heart foundation. After working at Sky Sports News, she moved to anchor ITV Morning News programme and read news for GMTV breakfast programme.
Sesay’s first step at CNN International in 2005 was based at the global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. During the presidential election of Nigeria in 2007, she went to the country to cover the event where she had an interview with Obusegaun Obasanjo, the outgoing event and Umaru Yar’Adua, the newly elected president. During the time of launching Global Elders, she travelled to South Africa. She began hosting on International Desk in 2009 and exchanged her role with Michael Holmes to become the presenter of BackStory, a weekday news show, in 2011. In 2012, she anchored CNN NewsCenter.
Isha Sesay engaged with his boyfriend in January 5, 2013 and planned to marry with him soon after a few months. The CNN anchor married fellow CNN staffer Leif Coorlim in Atlanta in August, 2013. Her husband was born in California and grew up in Chicago and Portland. The marriage ceremony took place at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in front of the couples’ family and close friends. The couples are staying together and there is no clue about their divorce. She doesn’t have children yet.
