Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft is a famous Japanese-American television and film actress. She is also a recognized singer and lyricist. She is most famously known in Hollywood as Velma Dinkley of the popular Scooby-Doo! movie franchise. She is also getting major attention for her new album and her role in The Fosters on ABC Family. She was born on April 3, 1991.
Hayley Kiyoko was born in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are Jamie Alcroft, a comedian and Sarah Kawahara, a Canadian born Japanese figure skater. When Hayley was six, she started learning to play the drums and by the time she was eleven, she was already selling her music to stores. She was also an excellent student at school and eventually learned to play the guitar. She is a gifted dancer and is not the one who lurks in the background but prefers to be under the spotlight. When she was younger, she also practiced karate and holds a black belt. The singer-actress gained much attention from her movie, Lemonade Mouth and consequently she was rumored to be dating her co-actor Chris Brochu but neither confirmed the rumor.
After her high school graduation in 2009, she studied at Clive Davis School of Recorded Music, New Jersey University but dropped out to further her acting career. In 2007, she formed a band called Hede and performed locally. Their self-recorded album released in 2008. That year, she also agreed to be a part of a dance group, The Stunners, with Allie Gonino, Kelsey Sanders, Marisol Esparza and Tinashe. They were signed to Columbia Records and later Universal Republic Records. They had planned a second album but The Stunners disbanded in 2011. Hayley joined My World Tour with her bandmates as opening act. She nabbed the role of Velma Dinkley after an audition and starred in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins in 2009. She reprised her role in Scooby Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster in 2010. As she began getting more attention, she started getting more acting offers. She had a recurring role in Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney starring Selena Gomez in 2010. Her most popular role came next on the Disney film, Lemonade Mouth, as Stella Yamada. She also lent her voice for the movie’s soundtrack. She had expected to reprise her role in a sequel to Lemonade Mouth but Disney cancelled the movie. She was a guest star on Zeke and Luther on Disney XD in 2011. In 2012, she was seen in Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. She appears on the family drama The Fosters on ABC Family as a regular. In 2012, she launched a project to fund her EP which succeeded in late 2012 and she was able to release A Belle to Remember in 2013. She then collaborated with James Flannigan to put out another EP titled This Side of Paradise and released it in 2014. She was cast to appear in the movies Jem and the Holograms and Insidious: Chapter 3 in 2015. She has also guest starred in All Grown Up! and The Vampire Diaries and will be seen in a lead role in CSI: Cyber in 2015.
Hayley’s interest in figure skating was probably sparked by her mother who is a professional figure skater. In 2007, she was seen in the movie Blades of Glory performing an ice skating routine. She also performed her mother’s moves at the Winter Olympics inauguration ceremony which was held in Salt Lake City in 2002. Some of her other hobbies and interests are hiking, choreographing and karate.
