Gauri Khan | Biography
Gauri Khan is one of the most popular celebrity wives in Indian cinema. She is the wife of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan aka King Khan. Born on October 8, 1970, Gauri’s popularity may have stemmed from the successful career of her husband, who is one of the richest actors in the world, but she has emerged as an able film producer in her own right. Gauri has been producing many movies which her husband has starred in the past decade. The Indian film producer is the co-founder of Red Chillies Entertainment and is also a celebrated interior designer.
Gauri was born to Colonel Ramesh Chandra and Savita Chhibber in New Delhi. She attended Loreto Convent School and is a graduate of Lady Sriram College. Gauri was known as Gauri Chhibbar before her marriage to Shah Rukh Khan. The gorgeous celebrity is of Punjabi Hindu ethnicity while her husband is a follower of Islam. She had met the then aspiring actor in 1984 and began dating him soon after. They continued their courtship for six years and got married on October 25, 1991 in a Hindu ceremony. The New Delhi native gave birth to their first son, Aryan, in 1997. A daughter was born three years later. In 2013, their second son, Abram, was born through surrogacy. She currently resides in Mumbai, Maharashtra with her husband and three children.
Gauri founded the Indian film production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, in 2002 with Shah Rukh Khan. The company’s first hit movie was the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Main Hoon Na which was released in 2004. The movie was directed by choreographer Farah Khan and produced by Gauri. Main Hoon Na did extremely well at the box office and was the second highest earning movie of that year. She next produced the thriller Kaal with Dharma Productions in 2005. She went on to produce a series of hit movies with her husband as the main actor. Shah Rukh Khan starred in Amol Palekar’s commercial success Paheli in 2005. In 2007, Gauri produced and had a cameo appearance in the romantic drama Om Shanti Om which starred her husband and Deepika Padukone. She produced Billu in 2009 which starred Irfan Khan, Lara Dutt and Shah Rukh Khan. Other hits like My Name is Khan, Student of the Year and Chennai Express followed. She also produced Farah Khan’s Happy New Year in 2014. In 2015, she will be producing Rohit Shetty’s Diwale which will be starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan. The film will also be reuniting Shah Rukh Khan with frequent co-star Kajol. The comedy drama is scheduled to release in December 2015. In 2008, she and her husband appeared in a commercial for D’décor. Gauri has also professionally taken up interior designing. It started as a hobby but she decided to professionally become an interior designer after she worked on her own home designs. In 2010, she and Sussanne Khan, former wife of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, teamed up to design their first project. Gauri also launched a line of furniture designs with The Charcoal Project in 2012. She graced the cover of Indian edition of Vogue in 2008 as the First Lady of Bollywood. In 2009, she attended the 66th Golden Globe Awards with Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar.
