Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most popular faces in American television. She is an accomplished actress and comedian who is most popularly known in present day for her own celebrity talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She is a renowned host, creator and producer of her own show. She is also regarded for her self-titled 90s television series, Ellen. She was born on January 26, 1958.
Born and bred in Metairie, Louisiana, Ellen was born to Elliot Everett DeGeneres and Betty Pfeffer. She and her brother share French, Irish and German ancestry. After her parents divorced in 1974, she and her mother moved to Atlanta, Texas to live with her stepfather. While growing up she held a number of different jobs such as waitress, saleswoman, clerk, bartender and hostess. She revealed that she was a lesbian in 1997 and since then began dating women openly. She is presently happily married to actress Portia de Rossi. They wedded in 2008 after the ban over same-sex marriage was lifted in California. She dated Anne Heche shortly after coming out and remained a couple until 2000. Her previous girlfriend was Alexandra Hedison with whom she was in a relationship for three years until 2004.

Since her early career, Ellen has been largely present in American television. She appeared in Open House as a regular and later in Laurie Hill in 1992. In 1994, she began appearing on her popular series Ellen, previously These Friends of Mine on ABC. In 1997, she guest starred on The Oprah Winfrey Show and came out. She made a comeback after a hiatus with The Ellen Show in 2001 on CBS. In 2003, her most famous show on television, The Ellen DeGeneres Show was aired to critical acclaim. The show’s debut season only claimed eleven Daytime Emmy Awards nominations and won four of them. She is also admired for her charming and funny attire of hosting awards shows. She has hosted many important award shows including the Emmy Awards in 2001 and Academy Awards in 2007. As a voice actor, she is known for her multiple award winning performance in the animated move Finding Nemo. Over the years she has appeared in commercials for American Express and has collaborated with Cover Girl Cosmetics and J.C. Penny. In 2010, she launched her recording company, Eleveneleven. She won the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Funny Female Star four years in a row since 2005. She also won a series of Favorite Talk Show Host awards from 2005 to 2010. She has been awarded four more People’s Choice Awards over the years. She was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. Her net worth in 2007 was reported to be $65 million and as of 2014, she is reported to have increased it to $200 million. She is Forbes’s 46th world’s powerful woman in 2014.
