Dame Kelly Holmes | Biography

Not every single entry in sports can succeed making their career decorate with international fame, but Dame Kelly Holmes kissed the international success with her winning career as a middle distance athlete. She is the daughter of her British mom, Pam Norman & Jamaican dad, Derrick Holmes, who was professionally a car mechanic. 19th April, 1970 born Kelly was raised in the Hildenborough village.  Primarily, she joined the Hildenborough CEP School, & later at age 12, she got admitted to the Hugh Christie Comprehensive School, located at Tonbridge. Her actual birth name is Kelly Holmes. Following her parents’ divorce, the little Kelly was brought up by her mom & step-dad, Michael Norris.

Dame Kelly Holmes started her athletics training as soon she stepped into her 12, joining the local Tonbridge Athletics Club & subsequently earning the “English schools 1500 meters” during her 2nd season in the year 1983. She was inspired by few successful English middle distance runners around the late 70s & early 80s, She started participating in middle-distance matched throughout her youth. The enthusiastic Kelly introduced herself as a professional athletic during the early of 90s & soon in 1994 she became the winner of the Commonwealth Games’ 1500 m & became the silver medalist at the prestigious European Championships. In 1995 Gothenburg World Championship, Kelly won both the silver & bronze medals but faced different suffering from injuries over the 2 subsequent years, losing to collect a medal on her foremost Olympics, i.e. 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Participating in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the athlete finally earned silver in the race of 1500 m & was awarded bronze during the 800 m race of 2000 Sydney Olympics, which was her original Olympic medal. Following her retirement from athletics in the year 2005, Kelly was established as a Dame Commander. Presently, she is the honorable president of the Commonwealth Games England & was formally a counselor for the Olympics 2012. Her emergence on television screen is also increased after her retirement, including the “The Cube” (2010) & “Studio One” (2011). In the year 2010, she was even introduced into the legendary “England Athletics Hall of Fame”, & was announced the face of the Royal British Legion programme’s “MoneyForce”, in order to convey money opinion to the United Kingdom Armed Forces. Prior to her induct in the sports, she was an active army sergeant.

Outside of her running field, Dame Kelly Holmes has even made her hands in different charities & social welfare projects. In 2008, she even launched a registered charity, under the name “DKH Legacy Trust” (i.e. Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust), so as to provide support the young athletes & assist the lives of youngsters across the United Kingdom. As for some interesting facts about the winning athlete, Kelly cites herself to be a very good driver of truck & even holds a license for heavy loads vehicle. She loves her Ugg boots which she bought from America, which is actually a cross between an Ugg boot & a welly.
